Advising

Visiting Undergraduate Students receive support from the coordinator of advising for Visiting Undergraduate Students, who serves as their primary contact and academic adviser.
The coordinator of advising, assisted by a team of individual advisers:

  • Provides all students with an extensive orientation upon arrival
  • Meets with students individually by appointment throughout the term to discuss academic issues and monitor students’ progress
  • Holds regular open office hours to maximize availability
  • Helps students access more specialized advising resources and organizes social gatherings to enhance the VUS community.

The coordinator of advising for Visiting Undergraduate Students also acts as a liaison between students, the Advising Programs Office, departmental advisers, and the Office of Visiting Undergraduate Student Admissions.

Dudley House

All Harvard undergraduates are affiliated with a Harvard House. As a Visiting Undergraduate Student, you will be affiliated with Dudley House. Dudley House serves graduate students and undergraduates who live off campus. Your academic advising will be coordinated at Dudley House. In addition, Dudley House offers some recreational facilities and organizes a number of social activities for Visiting Undergraduate Students. For more information, see the Dudley House website.

Off-Campus Housing Resources

VUS are not eligible to apply for Harvard University housing.

Securing an apartment in the Cambridge area can be time-consuming, and it is important to allow sufficient time to find an accommodation. Apartments are generally listed one to two months before becoming available, but accepted students should begin the search for off-campus housing as soon as possible. It is critical to secure housing before arriving at Harvard. Some helpful resources are below.

  • Harvard University Housing
    Campus Service Center
    1350 Massachusetts Avenue
    Cambridge, MA 02138
    (800) 252-5020 or (617) 495-3377
    huhousing@harvard.edu
Harvard University Housing provides the following online resources, but cannot secure off-campus housing for undergraduate students:

  • Harvard University Housing Apartment Source
View private market apartment listings posted by area landlords and real estate agents.
  • Harvard University Housing Roommate Center
See listings posted by Harvard affiliates who are looking for a roommate. Please note: any listing designated as "Harvard University Housing" refers to on-campus housing and is not available to Visiting Undergraduate Students.

  • Campus Service Center
    1350 Massachusetts Avenue
    Cambridge, MA 02138
    (617) 496-7827
    Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
The Campus Service Center can answer common questions for students who are new to the area (e.g., What residential areas are close to the mass transit system? What locations are within walking distance to Harvard Yard? What is a reasonable rental rate? etc.).
