An Important Message to Applicants:
Please Note with Care

Thank you for your application to Harvard College. We hope you can now relax a bit with the application filing behind you. Now it is our turn to devote our attention to your application, and to consider all the information you have provided.

We think it will be helpful to you to have a few guidelines and reminders as the evaluation process moves forward. Your cooperation (and that of your family) will be helpful to us.

(1) Application Confirmation: By the end of January you will have received an email or letter with instructions about making an online check of documents received by our Records Room. Until then, we will not be able to respond to any general or specific questions about the status of your application file. Please be assured that we will contact you for any missing, or additional, information required by the Admissions Committee in assessing your candidacy.

(2) Standardized Tests: The last test whose results the Admissions Committee will be able to review are those taken on January 23, 2010 (SAT Reasoning and Subject Tests) and February 6, 2010 (ACT with Writing). Please note that the latter examination date is not available in New York state.

(3) Interviews: When and where possible, we try to arrange for applicants to interview with alumni/alumnae in or near their school and community. No candidate is at a disadvantage if an interview cannot be set up. In the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., our alumni/ae will initiate contact with applicants directly by phone, email, or letter. Other country-specific instructions regarding interviews are described on page 4 of the Harvard application and on our website.

(4) Supplementary Materials: Supplementary materials such as art work, CDs, DVDs, research papers, extra essays, creative writing samples, and recommendation letters fall outside the purview of required documents for our decision-making. Consequently, they are not included among the items whose location you will be able to monitor either on-line or by calling our office. You should assume that they have arrived safely in your admissions file and that our officials will contact you directly if such materials are missing.

(5) Withdrawing Your Application: To withdraw your application from Harvard's admissions process, please send an email to fileroom@fas.harvard.edu with the word "Withdraw" in the subject line, along with your name, birthdate, high school, and the college you plan to attend next fall. You will receive a confirmation letter via regular mail. Also, please notify us of your withdrawal as soon as possible once your decision to do so has been made.

We very much appreciate your attention to these matters, as well as your interest in Harvard College. We wish you continued success in the months to come.
